A 40 year old farmer from Breslau, Julius Faehndrich arrived in New York City in May 1859 aboard the Neptun, intending to continue on to Canada. In November 1861, giving his age as 35 (he was 52), he enlisted in New York City and mustered as a teamster, Company G, 103rd New York Infantry.

He was mortally wounded in the leg at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and died in a hospital in Frederick, MD on 7 November 1862.
