Pvt William L. Douglas

A Putnam County farmer, Private William L. Douglas of Company I, 27th Indiana Infantry survived wounds in his left leg and shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, but died of smallpox in Philadelphia on 27 February 1863. His photograph is from Brown’s The Twenty-Seventh Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the War of the Rebellion (1899).
