Captain Louis Charles Latham of the First North Carolina Infantry was wounded in command of Company G at Sharpsburg in September 1862. He’s seen here, center, in a photograph from the Washington County Historical Society, online from the Museum of the Albemarle. That’s his younger brother Julian, left, who was 2nd Lieutenant in his Company, and Nehemiah J. Whitehurst, his First Lieutenant, who became Captain when Louis was promoted to Major in 1863.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina and, after the war, Harvard Law, Louis was elected to two terms in the US House of Representatives; 1881-83 and 1887-89.
