I’d been running this blog using a design and internal structure unchanged since my first post in March 2006, and this anniversary seemed like a good time to spruce it up a bit. 20 years is like 100 in internet-years.
There was nothing really wrong with the way the old version looked (snapshot above), but it was getting very slow to load, so it was time to update to a more current theme and do some housecleaning and optimization.
I have more work to do to bring some of the older posts into the new framework, but I like the speed and look of the blog so far.
I hope it, and I, will hold up for the next 20 years.
Unlike AotW itself, which is all custom code, the blog is built on the WordPress (WP) platform. When I launched behind AotW, WP version 2.0 was still new. In the years since the WP team has developed and released hundreds of updated versions, major and minor. The current version is 6.9.1.
