This is a photograph of the Darien Lower Bluff Sawmill from a piece by Brittany Tate in the Brunswick News of 11 August 2016. Lumber was the main business of Darien, Georgia and of Elihu Stuart Barclay, Jr. after the war.

Barclay was Major of the Phillips’ Legion Infantry Battalion when he was severely wounded in the ankle and spine and captured at Fox’s Gap in September 1862. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and back with the Battalion at Gettysburg in July 1863, but was still suffering from his wounds and withdrew from field service. He resigned in August 1863 and went home to serve in the Georgia State legislature. He died relatively young at age 46 in 1879.
