A.H. Summers (c. 1903)

Alvan Howard Summers was First Sergeant of Company O, Phillips’ Legion Infantry and was captured in action at Fox’s Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862. He returned to duty and was reduced to Private at his own request on 16 October, and served as a teamster to the surrender at Appomattox Court House on 9 April 1865.

He was a “a prominent citizen” in Clarkston, DeKalb County, GA to his death at age 73 in 1910. His photograph here is from his own Genealogy, or, Family Tree of Benjamin Summers and his Descendants for Four Generations (1903).
