Lieutenant Colonel Fielding Lewis Taylor of the 12th Virginia Infantry was “too ill to command” but accompanied his regiment into Maryland, and was mortally wounded in action at Crampton’s Gap on 14 September. He died of wounds in Charles Town, VA (now WV) on 3 October 1862. His photograph found in the October 2006 newsletter of the Gloucester (VA) Genealogical Society.
