Lieutenant John S Poland, USMA Class of May 1861, led a combined battalion at Antietam consisting of Companies from his own 2nd United States Infantry and the 10th US.
This photograph is from a collection probably compiled by his West Point classmate Henry Algernon Du Pont, now at the Hagley Museum and Library.
