Lieutenant (or Captain) John Wilson McCurdy was briefly in command of the 38th Georgia Infantry and probably the last officer of the regiment standing before he was wounded in the leg at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. His leg was afterward “useless” and he had transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps by 1864.
